For nearly 30 years, Chuck Hegberg has focused on “Re-shaping a Greener Future” using his management, technical, and research experience. With a strong reputation as an entrepreneurial visionary, he is known for innovative market-based solutions to some of the most complex environmental challenges. Consultant to Grant Projects Totaling $800,000 Mr. Hegberg has served as co-principal investigator or technical consultant for over $800,000 in grant funding for five National Fish and Wildlife Federation (NFWF), Transportation Research Board (TRB) and Mid-Atlantic Transportation Sustainability Center projects. He is an expert on biomass waste up-cycling projects that create beneficial opportunities in operational processes, renewable energy, waste management and up-cycling, and biochar(s) and byproducts. In 2013, Mr. Hegberg began advancing solutions for broad-scale urban soil restoration that more naturally mimic natural hydrologic process through pneumatic soil aeration, biochar, microbial inoculation, and other soil amendments. Best Management Practices Development Mr. Hegberg is actively involved in developing the next generation of smart, enhanced Best Management Practices (BMPs) using biochar as an enhanced media and/or soil amendment. He is partnering with the University of Delaware on a number of pilot projects and studies to improve BMP efficiencies and restoration methodologies. In 2018, Mr. Hegberg served as USBI Biochar conference chair.
